the adventures of the mountain goat and the giraffe; thunder mountain edition.

cathy and i decided on friday, july 12th that we would hike a mountain. bad idea. we hiked thunder mountain in juneau, alaska. it was going to be fun. today is sunday, july 14th. my calf muscles are in pain. here is the documentation of this hike with captions:

the start of the trail. it was hard to make it to the top of this hill...i may be slightly out of shape. (unfortunately, i thought this was going to be the hardest part. WRONG.)

the head of the trail. we were happy.

we got to eat blueberries. cathy enjoys blueberries.

cathy tripped twice in the first ten minutes. we hadn't even gone a mile up and i thought i was going to puke my guts out. it was a great start. luckily we got to this little patch of goodness:

right after i got done saying that when i was a child i thought quick sand was going to be a bigger problem for me...this happened:

luckily, it was her and not me. (love ya cat) she just grabbed some skunk cabbage, wiped the mud off and continued on the trek.

she loves when i make her stop so i can take pictures.

the view from the almost-top of thunder mountain:

this is her happy face.

this is her mad face because a bear is the reason we didn't make it to the top. silly teddy bear.

i can see my house from here!

you can see a little bit of the glacier peaking out.

she was being a baby dinosaur.

her "yay we are done!" face

her "lets do it again!" face

my "heck no! you are crazy!" face

salmon berries at the end! great reward!

our stats! we burned around 1,200 calories. and i am pretty sure i ate less than 200 before the hike. oops.
